Town of Concord responds to overcrowding at White Pond beach

The Town of Concord, MA Recreation Department sent out the letter below on July 19, 2024 on high demand for non-member access to the Town's White Pond beach.

Good morning, White Pond Members!

Thank you for your continued support of Concord Recreation and White Pond this summer!  We heard from many of you about the issues of White Pond non-members overwhelming presence last weekend and the havoc it caused.  As we understand it, this may have been a global issue in our area (including Walden Pond).  The increase interest in White Pond, may be due to Massachusetts beaches seeing record number closures.  Based on your feedback, we have put in place additional risk mitigation plans.

Due to weekend capacity issues, we are alerting our members of some actions being taken for this upcoming weekend and for the future as needed.

There is an electronic board posted on Plainfield Rd. notifying White Pond as members only along with additional signage.

Starting on Saturday, between the hours of 12-6pm, you will need to check in with the parking attendant upon entrance to the White Pond driveway and provide your name, and name of members attending.  If you are bringing a guest, please notify the attendant as to how many and what car.

On Saturday, there will also be Environmental Police checking in periodically along with Concord Police.

On Sunday, we will have a parking attendant checking again between the hours of 1-3pm along with periodical check ins.

We had a mid-season update training with all staff this week to reiterate the role and responsibilities of the lifeguards along where their authority lies within the property.

We truly value our members and appreciate the feedback to help enhance every ones White Pond experience and we will continue to work on improving for all!  Please report onsite issues to lifeguards on duty this weekend.  All other feedback is appreciated and can be emailed to concordrec@concordma.gov.

Thank you again,

Concord Recreation
